SHHS Participates in the 2017 March for Life

A contingency of students and faculty members from SHHS will attend the annual March For Life Rally to be held in Washington D.C., January 17-18, 2019. Sr. Frances Zajac, FSE, Ms. Marissa DiCarlo, and Mr. Rob Malaspina will join students who will depart from the Franciscan Life Center on Thursday morning and return Friday evening. Sacred Heart High School will join other Catholic High Schools and agencies from the Hartford Diocese and will partake in a vigil mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on Thursday evening. On Friday morning those in attendance from the Hartford Diocese will join Archbishop Leonard P. Blair for mass and breakfast before departing for the Pro-Life Rally.

Food Paves the Way Through History

Mrs. Molly Depaiva’s AP World History class at Sacred Heart High School studied a Revolutionary Series. The class enjoyed coffee and sugary snacks while studying the Haitian Revolution. Coffee and sugar were two main exports that Haiti needed slave labor to produce, which eventually led to slaves rising up under Toussaint L’Ouverture. Next the class participated in a “Tea Party” where they enjoyed “firecake” while learning about the American Revolution. Students learned about the various foods that American Colonists ate to survive the Revolution, one being this flavorless flour cake. Students created annotated timelines to show cause and effect of the Revolution.
