Jenna Madigan, daughter of Mrs. Kristen and the late Mr. Scott Madigan of Waterbury, has been named Valedictorian and Michael Austin, son of Mrs. Vikki Silva of Waterbury, has been named Salutatorian for the Class of 2018 at Sacred Heart High School, according to Mrs. Eileen M. Regan, President.
During Jenna’s four years at Sacred Heart High School, she has accumulated an impressive record of achievement and community involvement. Jenna is the recipient of the 2018 Superintendent’s Summa Scholar Award and was chosen as a “Class of 2018 Super Senior.” She received the F. Curtis and Susan B. Thrall Foundation Scholarship, the Yale Book Award, the Deeley Family Foundation Scholarship, the Unico Scholarship, the First Baptist Church Scholarship, is the recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution Award, and the CIAC Scholar Athlete Award. Jenna is an Advanced Placement Scholar and was also chosen as a CT Governor’s Scholar Semi-Finalist. Her community service volunteerism has included Relay for Life, the Making Strides Walk, Cupcakes for Cancer, the Wingman Workshop with the Beacon Falls Youth Theatre, and numerous Sacred Heart Admissions, Athletic and Advancement events.
Jenna’s drive and work ethic is unparalleled, in a word, she is extremely dedicated to everything she does. She has served as President of her Junior and Senior Class, President of Student Council and is a member of the National Honor Society. She has also found time to be a member of the International Club, the Yearbook Club, a Student Ambassador, and the Sportsmanship Council. Additionally, she has played on the Girls’ Basketball team for all 4 years serving as its captain her Junior and Senior year and played on the Girls’ Softball Team her Freshman and Sophomore years.
Jenna is a 2014 graduate of St. Mary Magdalen Grammar School. She is employed as a clerical and administrative assistant at the Law Offices of Phillip H. Monagan. She will attend the University of Connecticut in the fall to begin her
professional studies in the field of biomedical engineering. Jenna is the recipient of the University of Connecticut’s Presidential Scholar Award.
Michael Austin has certainly left his mark on the Heart’s school community both in and out of the classroom. He is always willing to lend his support and was chosen as a “Class of 2018 Super Senior.” Michael is the recipient of the 2018 Superintendent’s Summa Scholar Award, the F. Curtis and Susan B. Thrall Scholarship, and the Unico Scholarship. He is a member of the National Honor Society, and has served as the Class of 2018 Social Chairman during both his Junior and Senior years.
Michael has further distinguished himself having placed as a runner-up in the New York Time’s 5th Annual Vocabulary Video Contest. He is employed at Mathnasium as a Math Tutor and still has found the time to volunteer each week during senior year at his alma mater, St. Mary School. He is an aspiring cartoonist and animator in his free time.
During his four years at the Heart, in addition to his academic and his community service involvement, Michael was a member of the Science Olympics Club, the Debate Club, the Art Club and Yearbook Club. He was also a member of the Cross-Country Team and the Basketball Team.
Michael is a graduate of St. Mary’s Grammar School. He will attend the University of Connecticut in the fall, major in Engineering and is the recipient of the University of Connecticut’s Presidential Scholar Award.
