The Student Council at Sacred Heart High School, under the direction of teacher moderator, Mrs. Molly DePaiva, brought much needed cheer and assistance to so many during the month of November. The council participated and organized a Thanksgiving Food Drive, Soldier Care Package, and a Clothing Drive.
The annual Thanksgiving food drive was a huge success for the St. Vincent de Paul soup kitchen in Waterbury these last two weeks. Hundreds of non-perishable food items were collected and over $700 raised through a dress casual day to donate to the soup kitchen.
The Student Council also adopted a soldier to write letters and send a care package to this holiday season. Students collected gum, candy, sunflower seeds, coffee, magazines, toiletries, and other goodies to send to Iraq to members of the Air Force. They also took the time to write letters to these soldiers to send them holiday cheer and to thank them for their service.
The Council is partnering with St. Mary’s Hospital to collect clothing this winter season for those in need. They have been collecting new and gently used clothing items such as sweatshirts, pants, coats, shoes, socks, and other items that are needed.
